REV. HAROLD W. SCHROETER
The Rev. Harold Walter Schroeter, son of Reinhardt Toepke and his wife, Martha, (nee Beccue), was born on December 23, 1927 at Effingham, Illinois. Following the death of his mother when he was four months old, Pastor Schroeter was legally adopted by his mother's sister and husband - Rev. Walter and Augusta Schroeter. This adoption occurred through the Effingham County Court System.
Pastor Schroeter was made a child of the Lord Jesus Christ through the saving water of Holy Baptism on January 15, 1928. This sacrament was administered in the Immanuel Lutheran Church, of which his father was pastor. He renewed this Baptismal covenant through the solemn rite of Confirmation on June 8, 1941, also at the Immanuel Lutheran Church.
In preparation for the Christian ministry, Pastor Schroeter was enrolled in St. Paul's College, Concordia, Missouri, in the fall of 1945. In September 1948, he entered Concordia Theological Seminary, Springfield, Illinois, in completion of his studies for the holy ministry. He was graduated with the class of 1954. His entire ministry was spent in the states of Wisconsin and Texas: Holy Trinity Lutheran Church, Okauchee, Wisconsin; Our Redeemer Lutheran Church, Sheboygan, Wisconsin; Peace Lutheran Church, Garland, Texas, and Mt. Calvary Lutheran Church, San Antonio, Texas. The Lord was pleased to bless the proclamation of His inspired Word through the founding and organization of Resurrection Lutheran Church, Fredericksburg, Texas. Upon his retirement, he and his wife became communicant members of Cross Lutheran Church in New Braunfels. His constant joy was to serve the Lord, and also his pastor.
On May 11, 1957, Pastor Schroeter was united in holy marriage with Miss Carol Kaddatz, of Watertown, Wisconsin. This marriage was solemnized before God's alter at St. John's Lutheran Church, in Watertown. The Lord was pleased to bless this marriage with the gift of two sons and one daughter: Jim, Alan, and Judy.
It pleased the Lord of the Church to then send His holy angel down to earth to carry the soul of Pastor Schroeter safely home to the glories of His heaven on last Saturday, June 17, 2017, at the age of 89 years, 6 months, and 25 days.
He is mourned by his beloved widow, Carol; his two sons - James, of Garland, Texas; Alan of Rowlett, Texas; his daughter, Judy Gallagher, of Arlington, Virginia; his adopted sister, Elaine Bell, of Denver, Colorado; two daughters-in-law and one son-in-law; seven grandchildren; 5 great grandchildren; and other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, his adopted parents, and two brothers - Warren and Alvin, and sister Eulalia.
Following the Christian funeral, his body will be laid to rest in Chapel Hill Memorial Park, San Antonio, Texas.
