Bette Anne Pope passed away on 13 September 2016 at Eden Hill in New Braunfels, Texas. She was 76 years old. She was born in St. Louis, Missouri and grew up in Oklahoma City. She attended Texas Woman's University for two years and graduated from Oklahoma State University with a degree in Education. She met her husband, Jim Pope, at OSU and they were married in 1961. Bette Anne Pope passed away on 13 September 2016 at Eden Hill in New Braunfels, Texas. She was 76 years old. She was born in St. Louis, Missouri and grew up in Oklahoma City. She attended Texas Woman's University for two years and graduated from Oklahoma State University with a degree in Education. She met her husband, Jim Pope, at OSU and they were married in 1961. After both graduated from college, they moved to Cedar Falls, Iowa to work. Bette taught school for two years and then raised her two fine sons. She had a life long desire to continue to learn and took numerous classes at the University of Northern Iowa, where she completed the course work for an MBA. After moving to Ottumwa, Iowa for her husband's work and her sons were in college, she became the Medical Librarian at the Ottumwa Regional Health Center, where she did studies and research for 65 doctors in a clinic attached to the health center. She was an early user of the Internet in her work and was proud to be part of a team working on Telemedicine. Bette was awarded Telemedicine Champion from the National Laboratory for the study of rural telemedicine from the University of Iowa.

Bette was involved with many community and volunteer organizations and often served in leadership positions. This included the Librarians Association where she was the state president, PEO, American Association of University Women, Panhellenic, Kappa Delta, Salvation Army board, and numerous book clubs and study groups. While raising her children, she was especially active in the PTA, Boy Scouts, and the Methodist Youth Fellowship at St. Timothy's in Cedar Falls, Iowa. She was active in each church where she lived including the New Braunfels Presbyterian Church where she served on several committees. Bette loved to play bridge, golf, ride her bicycle, and travel. She loved people and made friends everywhere she went.

She is survived by Jim Pope, her husband of over 54 years; two sons, Richard and Ronald; daughter in laws, Rebecca and Ramona; four grand children, Tanner, Calli, Anwen and Colin; two great grandchildren, Gracie and Coltin; a brother, Harold Brown; numerous nieces and nephews; sister and brother-in-laws, Mary and John Dobrinski, Gary and Joan Pope, and David and Julie Pope; and many good friends. Bette was preceded in death by her parents, Harold and Billie Brown; a sister, Barbara Marquis; and a brother, Bill Brown. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to the New Braunfels Presbyterian Church memorial fund. A memorial service will be held at the New Braunfels Presbyterian Church on Saturday 24 September 2016 at 3:00 pm. Arrangements under the direction of Zoeller Funeral Home, New Braunfels, TX.
