Bertha was born in Lockhart, Texas to Pedro and Lucia Martinez on December 19, 1934. She attended New Braunfels High School and earned her GED after marrying Ramon in 1951. Ramon and Berta married on December 5, 1951 and celebrated 51 years of marriage. She worked as a Special Education teacher's aide for New Braunfels ISD from 1979 to 1999. She continued substituting with the Special Education classes from her retirement until the spring of 2016. She enjoyed volunteering at the kitchen for the Knights of Columbus Monday night bingo, spent time in the past cooking for Sts Peter and Paul Youth Ministry in addition to cooking for Senior's Citizens Meals on Wheels program. She enjoyed meeting new people, reading, she was a wonderful hostess and always made time to visit with family and friends. But above all her greatest joy was taking care of others and spending time with her grandchildren. Bertha was always making others laugh with her jokes and great sense of humor.
